Psychosis

Psychosis is an older term referring to a severe disorder in which an individual is not able to distinguish fantasy from reality. In other words, his reality testing is gravely impaired. The psychosis known to most lay people is schizophrenia, which features such symptoms as delusions, hallucinations, and disorganized speech.

[Today, those illnesses that used to be called psychoses are grouped together as Psychotic Disorders.]
